Gyakusatsu - The Day of the Man's Death

Neither Marbre Negre label nor Gyakusatsu titles rang me a bell until listening to this CDr. At first I was quite excited ant thought that it might be some hidden gem that appears from time to time out of nowhere and agreed to review it but while listening to it, the feelings got mixed more and more towards this project and label. Gyakusatsu is a separate work of Òscar from Catalonian project Persona, which specializes more in death industrial, harsh noise and power electronics sounds and stylistics. Ideological engine of this project is: religion, serial killers, sexual perversions etc. Well, at least that's what was written in presentation of this release and what got me anxcious. It seems that the project was created by some unwritten rules or by a formula "perversions + hate towards religion + serial killers + <insert some seemingly controversial theme> + noise = uber industrial project". At least I saw this project as absolutely faceless one. If we'd justify that facelessness by the fact that it's the first release of the project and so on, ok, I guess that's possible. Experiments, searching etc. But the sound itself doesn't cheer me up too. Starting with the quality. Were there no mastering done or the sound was specially mastered in such way that there would be no low-frequences and all the tracks hung in the upper frequencies? I tried to play a little bit with volume while listening to this CDr very loudly, with equalizer, thinking that this might be a problem, but to no use. It's absolutely powerless. Sound is flat and has nothing to offer. The tracks too, they're unmemorable and not interesting and having in mind the lack of quality, after some time this album starts to irritate. Well, yes, voice under effects, dull variations of noise machine, metal clangs or something like that in the background, samples, appearing here and there etc. Despite the fact that theoretically this album could sound perhaps not bad, but because of lack of quality it's just a mirage that you could try to imagine if you want to justify this project. Yes there is one positive thing in this release. Nice packaging. Professionally duplicated cover, sticker, insert, keyring (that's, truth to say, is one of the stranger decisions that I saw as a bonus coming with the release. How does that keyring reflect ideas of the album, sound and aesthetics? What does that mean? Some sort of message?) etc. I cannot find any more positive things to say about this album. Very weak release. I have a feeling that this project won't live very long, but in case it does, I hope that other releases will be more successful and more interesting than this one.
