First up is the first issue of the New Forces zine, homemade, 32 pages, black and white, 8.5/11 pages. Wanted to give doing a zine a shot, pretty happy with how things turned out, so this should hopefully be the first of many. This one includes interviews with Plague Mother, Vasculae, Gnawed, and Orgasmic Response Unit. Sam Stoxen (Phage Tapes), Peter J. Woods, and J. Stillings (Steel Hook Prostheses) talk favorite Japanoise, live noise performers, and Industrial albums, respectively. Also included are still frames from a movie by Chris Latina (Corpuscle / Private Archive) as well as reviews, including a review of the classic Noise War comp on Mother Savage. Some photos from last years Portland Harsh Noise Fest are also included. The zine is 5$ ppd in the U.S. and 8$ ppd rest of the world. Muck - Black Hole Earth (C32)
Muck is a collection of long-term Dayton, Ohio noise artists that coalesced last year into this sludge-covered quartet. I caught them on their tour through the Midwest and immediately asked them to do a release on New Forces. Members are known for their work in projects such as Teeth Collection, Developer, Pusdrainer, and Breached Hull, but with Muck they channel death-industrial and heavy electronics, adding their own unique, reverb-drenched interpretation. Muck remind me of larger noise groups such as Blue Sabbath Black Cheer or Yellow Tears, and should appeal to fans of that sort of noise along with fans of more Industrial-style sounds.


Breaking the Will - Normalization (C20)
This is a repress of a BTW release from 2010, that I felt deserved another round of availability. Dynamic harsh noise, somewhere between the thick americanoise of Macronympha and the cut-up of K2 or Killer Bug. Review from the Unlistenable Music zine: Sophomore cassette from this notable new American noise artist. This one has a bit of a different sound from the excellent "German Autumn" CS... more muffled and contained due to the different mastering. The sound is so different that it actually sounds almost like a different project from the first cassette. Themes remain in the realm of militarism and terror, this time themed around suicide bombers instead of German anarchists. Low end and fuzzy sort of sound on this one, with some nice ideas and smart execution thereof. More Industrial feel and less Harsh Noise than the 1st cassette. There is more of an emphasis on composition on this release, with more electronics and Industrial style sounds in the mix (as opposed to the full-on punishment of the 1st BTW cassette). There is a reoccuring repetitive scraping sound on the second side that has the effect of sounding like a snarling animal, and then gradually builds back up into pure harsh noise almost at wall level. One of the best new artists from the midwest doing the pure harsh noise sound, but also with sounds of interest to the PE and HNW community. Nice follow-up to "German Autumn," seems like a project that will just keep improving over time.

Both tapes are type II Chrome, editions of 75 and 50 respectively.
